Power dressing became so serious it forgot to be powerful.
Over the course of my career, I have invested more than $1.3 billion and spent a decade working alongside women whose decisions move capital, culture, and institutions. I have seen the old uniform up close. I've worn it. It served a purpose by helping women enter rooms that were not built with them in mind.
But I have also watched that bargain come at a cost. Too often, it asked women to edit out their vitality, expression, and visual force — the very qualities that made their power impossible to ignore.
The next era of power dressing cannot be about making women acceptable to rooms they have already earned the right to enter. It cannot ask her to choose between being taken seriously and being seen.
I didn’t found Dama Sutra to make women powerful. I founded it because powerful women deserve better clothes. What follows are seven principles: Dama Sutra’s new grammar of power dressing. Not rules for behaving. A new architecture for being seen.
VOLUME
Some women enter a room quietly. Others alter its proportions. The new rules of power dressing start here: volume is not excess. It is the architectural claim that tells the room exactly who arrived.
DISTINCTION
Blending in is useful for wallpaper, fugitives, and very few women of consequence. Distinction is the refusal of visual anonymity. In modern power dressing, it begins with a recognizable design language: signature silhouettes, rare color, precise detail, and the kind of luxury ready-to-wear that makes authority impossible to confuse with conformity.
TENSION
Too much control is a nap. Too much provocation is a hostage situation.
Tension is what happens when luxury ready-to-wear holds structure and sensuality, precision and movement, discipline and drama in perfect opposition.
RESTRAINT
Knowing when the garment is finished is the same skill as knowing when the negotiation is complete.
Restraint in modern power dressing is not minimalism. It is the editorial discipline to remove anything that competes with the woman, the silhouette, or the force of her presence. The most powerful dressing is defined by what it leaves unsaid.
MATERIAL INTELLIGENCE
The wrong fabric can undo an entire argument before lunch.
Material intelligence means choosing textiles for structure, movement, durability, finish, and tactile authority.
STRUCTURE
She never folds under pressure. Neither do her silhouettes.
In modern power dressing, structure is the precise construction behind sculptural silhouettes, allowing luxury ready-to-wear to hold shape, create composure, and project visual authority.
RANGE
She has chapters, not costumes.
For women who move between boardrooms, dinners, cultural events, and late conversations, range is not versatility; it is continuity of presence.
